The MNDF Male' Area Command Coast Guard Second Squadron was mobilized after receiving reports of a cargo boat named "Lokuri 6" taking on water while traveling from Male' to V. Fulidhoo.
The MNDF Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) received information about the incident around 08:16 this morning. Upon receiving the report, a vessel from the MNDF Male' Area Command Coast Guard Second Squadron was dispatched to the area with divers, according to the MNDF.
The owner of the 80-foot boat, which was traveling to V. Fulidhoo with four people on board, sent a pump on a speedboat to control the flooding. However, the engine stopped and the boat began to drift. With the assistance of another vessel sent by the owner to tow it, the boat was brought into K. Guraidhoo harbour this evening, the MNDF stated. The MNDF also noted that the Coast Guard Ship Shaheed Ali escorted the boat until it entered K. Guraidhoo harbour, in case further assistance was required.
No one was injured in the incident, the MNDF confirmed.
