The MNDF Coast Guard has begun providing assistance to a Sri Lankan fishing boat drifting west of Addu City.
Information that the Sri Lankan fishing boat "Sandali Valentina" was drifting was shared with the MNDF Coast Guard by relevant Sri Lankan authorities two days ago. Since receiving the report, the MNDF Coast Guard has been monitoring the boat using the shared information.
Today, MNDF stated that soldiers traveled to the area where the boat was drifting aboard the MNDF Southern Area Command Coast Guard Fast Interceptor Craft "Doshimeyna". At approximately 08:05 this morning, they began providing assistance to the boat 15 nautical miles west of Addu City.
The "Sandali Valentina" began drifting due to engine failure. There are 6 crew members on board, and MNDF stated that all of them are in good condition.
