Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam has stated that there are challenges in supplying enough ice from the HA. Ihavandhoo ice plant to cater to all the vessels on the island.
Speaking at a ceremony held to meet the residents of Ihavandhoo, the Minister said that the ice plant currently built in Ihavandhoo is one of the oldest block ice plants built in the Maldives. Therefore, it frequently faces issues.
"Even after we assumed office, it faced issues. By the grace of Allah, we were able to attend to it and now ice is available. There are difficulties," the Minister said.
The Minister noted that previously twenty-five fishing vessels operated in Ihavandhoo, but currently only fifteen vessels go out fishing. He added that there are challenges in supplying ice even to these fifteen vessels, and the government is working to bring a solution to this.
"There are challenges in providing ice even to the fifteen vessels operating in Ihavandhoo. And what about the vessels from other islands that come to Ihavandhoo to get ice? Therefore, God willing, President Muizzu will find a complete solution for the ice plant," the Minister said.
The Minister further stated that this government will bring a solution so that the fishermen of Bodu Thiladhunmathi will not have to travel all the way to Felivaru to weigh their catch.
