The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has stated that the "Nafaa" dhoni, which capsized last night, has not been found yet.
The dhoni capsized last night 0.33 nautical miles north of Vammaafushi while travelling from Male' to K. Maafushi loaded with goods. MNDF said that the search for the "Nafaa" dhoni is being carried out by the MNDF Male' Area Command, Coast Guard Second Squadron, and that the dhoni has not been found so far.
"The dhoni has not been found in the efforts made so far, however, some items believed to be equipment from the dhoni are being seen on the sea surface," MNDF said.
At the time the "Nafaa" dhoni capsized last night, the 3 people on board swam and boarded a safari moored near Maafushi. MNDF previously stated that none of them were harmed.
Following this incident, MNDF appealed last night for those travelling through the area, especially those travelling at night, to pay special attention while navigating.
