The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), which operates the Kooddoo Fisheries Complex (KFC), has stated that the issue with one of the cranes used for weighing fish has been resolved and the crane will be brought into operation today.
MIFCO stated that out of the 3 cranes currently used for weighing fish at KFC, 2 are fully functional. MIFCO also said that its engineering team is working tirelessly to resolve the issue with the 3rd crane.
"The functions of cranes 1 and 3 are good. Work is also underway to bring in equipment for the repair of crane 2. As such, the crane that faced the issue will be brought into operation today," MIFCO said.
Skippers going to weigh fish at MIFCO said that due to the broken crane, they had to wait in the queue for a very long time to weigh fish in recent days. As this is a good fishing season, with many vessels currently approaching KFC, skippers note that resolving this quickly is very important.
"During this period, vessels from all areas are coming to Kooddoo. Almost all vessels approach at around the same time. Sometimes, after joining the queue at 2:00 PM, we have to stay in the queue until 8:00 PM. This needs to be resolved as soon as possible," a skipper from GA. Vilingili said.
With fishing being good during this period, and MIFCO releasing payments for purchased fish within 48 hours of weighing, the rate of fish being weighed at all MIFCO facilities has increased.
