Bodu Kanneli Fishermen's Union to participate in May Day march!

The Bodu Kanneli Fishermen's Union has announced that they will participate in the May Day march held in Male' by a coalition of workers' associations.

The march calling for workers' rights is organized by civil society organizations related to workers currently in the Maldives. These include the Maldives Port Workers Union, Tourism Employees Association of Maldives, Maldives Trade Union Congress, Teachers Association, Maldives Health Professionals Union, and the Public Interest Law Centre.

The President of the Bodu Kanneli Fishermen's Union stated that fishermen active in the yellowfin tuna fishery will also come to Male' on that day to participate in the May Day march.

While workers' associations active in the Maldives have decided to hold a march to mark May Day, the opposition political party MDP has also announced that they will hold a march in Male' on May Day. Complaints that workers in the Maldives do not receive their due rights are always prevalent. Among them, fishermen have also been noting that the challenges faced by those active in the fishing industry are significant.
