A cargo boat travelling from Male' to Lh. Naifaru has taken on water and sunk.
According to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), after the boat named "Nasru" travelling from Male' to Lh. Naifaru began taking on water, the MNDF Northern Area Command, Coast Guard First Squadron responded, rescued the five crew members aboard onto a Coast Guard harbour craft, and transported them to Naifaru. Two Maldivians and three foreigners were travelling on the boat.
MNDF stated that the "Nasru" boat took on water and sank. The boat sank 3.3 nautical miles south of Lh. Aligaa. As debris from the vessel is drifting in the currents, MNDF has appealed to those travelling in the area to be cautious.
