A basic mariculture training course has begun under the Marine Hatchery Skills Development Programme.
This training program started yesterday in K. Maniyafushi. Fourteen participants joined the course, which will continue until November 12. The course in K. Maniyafushi is organized by the Maldives Marine Research Institute.
The Marine Hatchery Skills Development Programme is included in President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's "Hafuthaa 14" roadmap. It aims to develop mariculture, provide additional income and employment opportunities for people living across the Maldives near their islands, and expand and diversify economic activities in the country. The program is conducted jointly by the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources and the Maldives Marine Research Institute.
Under this program, the first training program to teach youth aquaculture skills and how to establish hatcheries needed to breed reef fish was conducted from February 8 to 21. Fifteen people from different regions of the Maldives participated in that training program.
