The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a Yellow Alert for the northern and central atolls, anticipating strong winds and rough seas.
The alert is effective from 09:30 am to 01:30 pm for the area spanning from HA. Atoll to Th. Atoll. The alert was issued forecasting winds between 25 to 30 miles per hour, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour, and very rough seas.
Forecasting the weather for the next 24 hours, the National Meteorological Service stated that rain is expected across various regions, with heavy showers and thunderstorms likely in some islands. Winds are expected from the southwest and west at speeds between 15 to 25 miles per hour, with gusts potentially reaching up to 45 miles per hour, the agency said.
Seas are generally expected to be rough today, with wave heights estimated between 4 to 8 feet.
Due to the bad weather, the National Meteorological Service has urged everyone to be cautious of the weather conditions.
