Bad weather prompts White Alert for a large area

Due to bad weather, a White Alert has been issued for a large area of the Maldives.

The Maldives Meteorological Service issued the White Alert for the region between B. Atoll and L. Atoll. The alert is effective from 08:30 in the morning to 01:30 in the afternoon, as heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in the area. Winds are also expected to gust up to 40 miles per hour during showers.

Forecasting the weather for the next 24 hours, the National Meteorological Service stated that rain is expected in various areas, with heavy rain and thunderstorms likely in some islands. Winds are expected to blow from the southwest and west at speeds between 10 and 20 miles per hour. Additionally, winds may gust up to approximately 40 miles per hour during showers.

According to the Met Office, seas will be moderately rough. They are also expected to become rough during showers. Wave heights are estimated to be between 3 to 6 feet.
