The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), the contractor for the B. Maalhos harbour upgrade and shore protection project, has stated that the work is progressing rapidly.
MTCC reported that 71 percent of the overall project has been completed, and the profiling of the rock boulder breakwater is currently underway.
The project was awarded to MTCC on March 1, 2023, to be completed within 450 days at a cost of MVR 69.47 million.
Under this project, dredging operations will cover 7,512 cubic meters of the existing harbour basin, 36,527 cubic meters of the new harbour basin, and 882 cubic meters of the channel. Additionally, the project involves the construction of a 370-meter breakwater, a 266-meter revetment, 376 meters of groynes, and a 310-meter quay wall.
Furthermore, the project includes the construction of an 11-meter long by 11-meter wide ramp, a 100-meter long by 1.5-meter wide concrete bridge, the laying of a 1,475 square meter pavement, and the installation of channel and harbour lights.
