The National Meteorological Centre has stated that seas across various parts of the Maldives will be rough today as well.
Forecasting the weather, the authority stated that northern seas will be moderately rough today, while seas in other areas will be rough. It is also predicted that seas will become rougher during squalls. The Met Office also stated that due to the rough seas during this period, tidal swells may affect some islands. Wave heights are predicted to be 3-5 feet in northern atolls and 4-7 feet in central and southern atolls.
The Met Office stated that southern islands may experience showers today, while northern and central atolls will experience rain, with heavy rain and thunderstorms likely in some islands.
Winds are expected from the south and southwest at speeds between 8 to 18 miles per hour in northern atolls, and between 13 to 23 miles per hour in other areas. The Met Office also stated that winds may gust up to approximately 40 miles per hour during squalls.
The Met Office stated that the weather is expected to worsen over the next 4 days starting tomorrow. This is because this period marks the transition from the Southwest Monsoon to the Northeast Monsoon in the Maldives region, creating opportunities for squalls to form. It also stated that the current rainy weather is expected to clear up starting next Monday.
As the weather is worsening, the Met Office has urged everyone to be cautious of the weather. Seafarers have also been urged to be cautious of the weather.
