Athif Shakoor has been appointed as a consultant to advise the CEO of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) on the company's operations.
Athif, who has previously served in several senior positions at the company for a long period, including as Managing Director of MIFCO, was appointed to the position of Strategic Consultant on the 1st of this month. Athif was appointed to the position on a contract basis for a period of 1 year.
Athif's responsibilities include advising and guiding the CEO and the Board on bringing necessary reformative changes to MIFCO's management system and the company as a whole. It also includes assisting the management in formulating and implementing long-term plans to develop the company. According to MIFCO, this involves assessing the company's internal strengths and weaknesses, identifying external opportunities and threats, formulating appropriate strategic goals, and presenting them to the company's CEO and Board.
Athif Shakoor is an economic expert who has attained higher education in the business field and has served in various capacities in the field for a long time. Athif obtained a Bachelor's Degree in "Economics and English Literature" from the University of the South Pacific in Fiji in 1989. He also obtained a Master's in Business Administration from Monash University in Australia in 1995. Athif has published articles in various local and international newspapers and magazines to familiarize or raise awareness in the economic field.
MIFCO's current Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer is the former Vice Chief of Defence Force, Brigadier General (Retd) Farhath Shaheer. The PCB appointed Farhath to the position on March 5th of this year, following the dismissal of Vitaly Lubimoff, who was serving as the company's CEO.
