President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that opportunities for fishermen to apply for soft loans through the banking system and State Trading Organization (STO) credit facilities will be arranged before the end of this year. He made this statement while delivering this year's Presidential Address.
In his Presidential Address, he stated that through the progress and systemic strengthening brought to the fisheries sector, a national registry of fishermen has been created as promised. He noted that, so far, 95 percent of the vessels active in the fishing industry have been registered in this registry.
Highlighting the benefits fishermen receive from registering, the President said that the opportunity to obtain soft loans through the banking system and apply for STO's credit facilities will be fully facilitated before the end of this year for those enrolled in the registry.
"I want the state to honorably recognize the workers in every such national sector, and facilitate many such opportunities. One nation. One family," the President said.
Compiling a national registry of fishermen is a presidential pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Under the efforts to fulfill this pledge, the national registry of fishermen was compiled and opened for enrollment on February 16 last year.
