The Ministry of Fisheries has opened registration for a training program aimed at generating interest in fishing among youth and bringing them into the fisheries sector.
This is the third time the opportunity to participate in this program has been opened. The Ministry first opened the opportunity to participate in this program from August 16 to August 27 last year. After that, it was also opened from September 2-17. The Ministry of Fisheries has not stated the reason for reopening registration for the program.
An announcement published in the gazette by the Ministry of Fisheries stated that those who wish to participate in this training program should complete the relevant form and submit it to the Ministry via email before October 23, 2025. If faxing, it should be sent to 3326558, and those emailing are requested to send it to maryam.ruva@fisheries.gov.mv or ahsan.mohamed@fisheries.gov.mv.
This training program, which is planned to run for three months, is open to 5 youths who want to enter the fishing industry for the first time. During the training program, participants will be given a daily allowance. For more information, the Ministry requests to call 3339276.
This training program, which is to be conducted under the Transforming Fisheries Sector in South-West Indian Ocean Region and Maldives Project with the assistance of the World Bank, is a program conducted to create interest in fishing among youth and to provide opportunities for youth to acquire relevant training and skills to enter the fisheries and fisheries-related sectors.
In addition to providing technical information on fisheries, participants in this program will have the opportunity to actively participate in fishing. As such, the Ministry of Fisheries has stated that participants in this program will receive training and skills on how to fish actively on one of the most notable pole-and-line fishing vessels engaged in skipjack tuna pole-and-line fishing, from the most experienced captains in the Maldives.
