The government has opened applications for the awards to be presented at the official ceremony marking this year's Fishermen's Day.
The Ministry of Fisheries announced the opening in a public notice issued yesterday, stating that three awards will be presented at the ceremony held on the occasion of this year's Fishermen's Day. These are the Experienced Skipper Award, the Dedicated Young Skipper Award, and the Dedicated Reef Fisherman Award.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Fisheries opened the opportunity for eligible skippers and fishermen to apply for these awards. The Ministry has allowed individuals to apply on their own behalf or to be nominated by others. The Ministry of Fisheries stated that these awards are open to individuals belonging to North Maalhosmadulu Atoll (Raa Atoll). Those wishing to apply for the awards must complete the application form and submit it to the Ministry of Fisheries before 14:00 on Thursday, 23 October 2025.
The Ministry has requested that the completed application forms be sent to the Ministry's email address fisheriesmanagement@fisheries.gov.mv.
December 10th is celebrated every year as Fishermen's Day. Fishermen's Day is celebrated at the national level to recognize the value of Maldivian fishermen and to encourage their work. This year marks the 45th Fishermen's Day.
