The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has appealed to seafarers to avoid all non-essential sea travel.
MNDF made this appeal to advise seafarers to be cautious of the weather, as the National Meteorological Centre has forecast rain and bad weather across various parts of the Maldives over the next two days. MNDF stated that they are appealing to seafarers to pay attention to the weather, especially since the National Meteorological Centre has forecast rain across the entire country, with winds gusting up to 50 miles per hour during showers and rough seas.
In its appeal, MNDF advised against all non-essential sea travel, and instructed those who must travel to pay special attention to the weather. Furthermore, they appealed to avoid travelling at night, to postpone trips until the weather improves if conditions are unfavorable, and to refrain from travelling when the National Meteorological Centre has issued a Yellow or Orange alert.
Forecasting the weather for the Maldives, the National Meteorological Centre stated that the southwest monsoon is expected to strengthen, bringing rain to various parts of the country, heavy rain and thunderstorms to some islands, strong winds during showers, and rough seas. Therefore, the agency has appealed to everyone to be cautious of the weather.
