The President's Office has reopened applications for membership in the committee formed to provide technical advice and guidance to the government on the fisheries sector.
Formed under the name "Fisheries Sector Advisory Committee", this committee is established to provide advice and consultation to the President and the government in shaping the future of the fisheries and mariculture industry, and in developing and advancing the industry in a sustainable manner. The committee, comprising a total of eleven members, is formed to represent skippers, fishermen, vessel owners, and academic/technical experts in fisheries and mariculture.

The responsibilities of this committee include providing advice and consultation on developing and strengthening the fisheries and mariculture sector, advising on changes needed in the Maldivian fisheries and mariculture industry in response to global changes, advising on new introductions to diversify the sector, and advising on the use of technology to advance innovation in the sector. Furthermore, the committee will advise on maintaining the quality of fisheries and mariculture products, establishing/strengthening quality assurance systems, establishing important infrastructure facilities for the development of the industry, facilitating investment opportunities in the Maldivian fisheries and mariculture industry, as well as advising on human resource development, capacity building of those working in the sector, and expanding the role of the community in the sector.
To provide an additional opportunity to apply for membership in these committees, the application window has been opened from today until 12:00 on Tuesday, 3 March 2026. Membership forms will be accepted during the application period, excluding official holidays, from 08:30 to 12:00 via the President's Office email info@po.gov.mv or at the reception counter of the President's Office.
