Ali Rasheed (Fisherman Alibe), a fisherman from GA. Vilingili, has stepped away from fishing and accepted a job offered by the Road Development Corporation (RDC).
Alibe has been appointed to the position of Inventory Management Officer at RDC. Following the job confirmation from RDC, Alibe has now started reporting to work. He decided to leave fishing and take up administrative office work because he believes his current health condition does not allow him to spend long hours doing strenuous work out at sea.
Alibe secured this job at a government company shortly after heavily criticizing the government during a protest over delays in MIFCO payouts to fishermen. At the time, Alibe stated that this government was brought to power through the hard work of fishermen, but after assuming office, the President sidelined them. He also called on people not to support government candidates in the parliamentary elections back then.
Alibe said that although he is stepping away from fishing for now, he will continue to work for the rights of fishermen and will raise his voice if things go wrong.
Alibe has been active in the fishing industry for over twelve years.
