The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard has received information regarding a drifting Sri Lankan fishing boat.
MNDF stated that the fishing boat is drifting 39 nautical miles west of HA. Vangaaru.

"Information has been received that this boat was abandoned by its crew due to an engine failure," the Coast Guard said.
The Coast Guard noted that as it is the rough period of the Southwest Monsoon and winds are blowing from the west and northwest, the boat is expected to drift closer to the Maldives.
In relation to this, the Coast Guard has urged those traveling in the area to be cautious. They have also appealed for special attention to be given by those traveling through the area at night.
