Agreement Reached with Chinese Institute for Cooperation in Aquaculture!

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Maldives Marine Research Institute and China's Fujian Fisheries Research Institute to cooperate in aquaculture and marine resource management.

The MoU was signed on behalf of the Maldives Marine Research Institute by its Director General, Mohamed Shimal.

This MoU, signed with MMRI which operates under the Ministry of Fisheries, aims to focus on research in sustainable aquaculture and marine resource management, jointly develop new and environmentally friendly aquaculture technologies, and strengthen strategic cooperation between the two countries through efforts to advance sustainable marine management.

As part of the Fisheries Ministry's efforts to develop the Maldives' mariculture industry to modern standards, an MoU was also signed on the 2nd of this month with Hongdong Fishery Corporation, a notable company in China's mariculture sector. Under this MoU, facilitation will be provided for the necessary work related to the investments Hongdong Fishery Corporation is preparing to make in the Maldives.

Furthermore, an agreement has also been signed with China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) to establish a fisheries and maritime logistics hub in Addu City. This project is an important initiative that will pave the way for the country's economic development and open a new door for the development of the fishing industry in the south.
