After a long time, a MIFCO fish purchasing vessel arrives in the Male' region!

The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has brought a fish purchasing vessel to the Male' region.

MIFCO's General Manager of Operations, Ahmed Zahir, stated that the company's vessel "Randhi-20" was brought to the Male' region, and it was anchored near the entrance channel to Hulhumale' this morning. Zahir added that fishing vessels wanting to weigh their catch in the Male' region will now be able to do so without any difficulties.

"It is a vessel with a capacity of 36 tonnes. It is now ready to purchase fish. Vessels can now weigh their catch until the boat is full," Zahir said.

Zahir noted that MIFCO fish purchasing vessels were occasionally stationed in the Male' region in the past as well. However, due to delays in issuing payments at the time, vessels would only weigh their catch to the boat after selling to other fish purchasing companies in Hulhumale', Zahir explained. He believes that although this was the case then, the experience will be different this time as payments are now being issued within 48 hours.

"There are also fish purchasing facilities in Hulhumale'. The remaining fish after weighing there is given to the MIFCO carrier. Fishermen did not weigh their catch to the MIFCO boat back then because they were not getting paid. We expect it to be different now that payments are being made regularly within 48 hours. I hope we will receive support from the fishermen," Zahir said.

Zahir stated that if there is support from the fishermen, a fish purchasing vessel will be permanently stationed in the Male' region.
