The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has officially opened the "Addu Fisheries Processing Facility" established in Hulhudhoo, Addu Atoll.
The special ceremony held this evening was graced by the State Minister of the Fisheries Ministry, Aminath Hussain Shareef, who officially inaugurated the facility. The ceremony was also attended by MIFCO CEO Brigadier General (Retired) Farhath Shaheer, the company's Strategic Consultant Ibrahim Athif Shakoor, and the Members of Parliament for the Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo constituencies.
Following the ceremony, which was attended by Addu fishermen, representatives from various institutions in Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo, and MIFCO employees, participants were given a tour of the facility and briefed on its operations. Bringing this facility into operation will enable the safe packaging of fish, provide reliable products, and increase the profitability of the fisheries sector for the people of Addu. MIFCO also highlighted that the facility will create job opportunities for locals and further expand the company's services.
Established by MIFCO in Hulhumeedhoo with the aim of purchasing and processing yellowfin tuna from the southern Maldives, the Addu Fisheries Processing Facility will initially produce three main products: yellowfin tuna blocks, yellowfin belly, and yellowfin curry cuts. These products will be available for purchase at the MIFCO Hulhumeedhoo store starting today. MIFCO stated that efforts are underway to secure distributors to ensure these products are accessible to the public across all parts of Addu Atoll.
