N. Velidhoo Island Council has decided to take action against those who moor vessels without permission at the local beach area.
Velidhoo Local Beach is a designated area for people of all ages for recreation, making BBQs, and swimming. The island council decided to take action against unauthorized mooring because various sizes of speedboats and dinghies are being moored in the water, and activities such as changing oil, scraping moss, and beaching these vessels are causing damage and difficulties for people using the beach and water. The council took this step as a solution after receiving repeated complaints from the public.
In an announcement published today, the Velidhoo Council stated that mooring, beaching, launching, changing oil, and scraping moss from any vessel in the local beach waters without the council's permission is strictly prohibited. Furthermore, starting from July 1st, if any of these activities are carried out, action will be taken against the owner of the vessel and the person in charge of the work under the general guidelines for managing the island's harbour.
