A trolling Fish Aggregating Device (FAD) has been deployed off the coast of Dh. Maadheli.
The Fisheries Ministry stated that the Maadheli trolling FAD was established today, 6 miles west of the island. The FAD number is K08V02.

This is the second trolling FAD deployed by this government in Dh. Atoll. In January this year, the Dh. Meedhoo FAD was established 5.5 miles east of the island. That FAD's number is K09V02. To mark the establishment of that FAD and express their gratitude, the residents of Dh. Meedhoo presented a traditional feast (bondibaiy) to the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources.
Trolling FADs, established at a distance of between 3 to 6 miles around islands, are specially deployed for trolling and sports fishing. Although pole-and-line fishing and yellowfin tuna fishing using handlines within a one-mile radius of trolling FADs were previously prohibited, with the recent amendment to the General Fisheries Regulation, pole-and-line fishing can now be carried out near trolling FADs.
