The Fisheries Ministry has stated that 83% of the fishing vessels operating in Addu City have been registered.
The Ministry said that under the ongoing efforts to complete the national fishermen's registry, 83% of vessels from Addu City have been registered so far. However, no further details regarding this were disclosed.
The Ministry is now aiming to complete the registration of all licensed fishing vessels and their crew members before the end of October. As such, the work of registering fishermen has been further expanded, and Ministry teams are currently carrying out registration work in 10 regions. The Fisheries Ministry previously stated that councils, fishermen, and vessel owners are providing their cooperation in this endeavor.
Included in the government's Week-14 roadmap, the Fisheries Ministry opened registration for the fishermen's registry on February 16 of this year. Fishermen are being registered through a module added to the Fisheries Ministry's "Keyolhu" system. The Keyolhu system is a system that collects, stores, and maintains fisheries-related information.
The Ministry stated that in order to complete the national fishermen's registry as soon as possible, starting from October 1, 2024, they will ensure that all crew members of a vessel are registered in the registry during the fishing license renewal process. Furthermore, the Ministry has urged the skipper (keyolhu), vessel owner, or the party responsible for operating the vessel to ensure that the crew members of licensed vessels are registered in the registry before October 1.
