Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam has stated that 56 crew members from the south have completed the rescue dive course under the Fisheries Ministry's programme to train at least one crew member from every bait-fishing vessel in the Maldives to the level of a rescue diver.
In a message shared on X, he stated that 56 crew members from 56 vessels belonging to seven atolls in the south have completed the rescue dive course.
Details of the atolls that completed the course:
GA. Kolamaafushi: 05 crew members
GA. Vilingili: 14 crew members
GA. Dhevvadhoo: 07 crew members
GA. Nilandhoo: 04 crew members
GA. Dhaandhoo: 07 crew members
S. Maradhoo: 11 crew members
The Ministry expressed gratitude, noting the cooperation and assistance provided by the council offices to the Fisheries Ministry and instructors in conducting the rescue diver course.
The rescue diver course is a programme conducted as part of the Ministry's efforts to implement President Dr. Muizzu's policy of having a trained rescue diver on every fishing vessel. While 50 fishermen were scheduled to be trained in the first round of this programme, the crew members are trained by professionals who have completed dive instructor courses in the Maldives.
