An agreement has been reached with a Chinese company to develop a fish processing facility with a daily capacity of 50 tons in Dhaalu Maadheli.
This facility is being established under an agreement signed today by the Fisheries Ministry with China's Dongfang Electric International Corporation to develop and finance fish landing, processing, and storage facilities in the Maldives. Under this agreement signed by Minister Ahmed Shiyam, the Fisheries Ministry stated that the projects in Maadheli will be carried out in two phases.
Accordingly, the first phase includes developing a special harbour with a landing facility for fish weighing and carrier boats, establishing accommodation, and developing roads. It also includes establishing a fish purchasing and chilling facility, and a 1,500-ton cold storage facility.
