This facility was established as part of the efforts to fulfill President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's pledge to "arrange easy access to ice for fishermen." The facility will be operated by the state fisheries company, MIFCO.
The facility was inaugurated at a ceremony held today by the Chief Imam of the Islamic Centre, Fadheelathush-Shaikh Mohamed Latheef. The ceremony was attended by Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam, MIFCO CEO Brigadier General (Retired) Farhath Shaheer, senior officials of the Fisheries Ministry, senior officials of the Bandidhoo Council, local fishermen, and citizens.
With the newly established ice plants in Dhaalu Atoll coming into operation, the hardships previously faced by the fishermen of Dhaalu Atoll in obtaining ice will come to an end, providing them with significant convenience.
