The High Commission of the Republic of Maldives in Bangladesh hosted "The Great Tuna Gala – Flavours from the Sunny Side" at Sheraton Dhaka, putting the Maldives' sustainable fisheries sector and seafood exports at the center of efforts to expand regional trade.
The event was attended by M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism of Bangladesh, who served as the Chief Guest, along with around 250 guests including government representatives, diplomatic corps members, seafood buyers, and industry leaders.
Tuna, the foundation of the Maldivian commercial fisheries sector, was featured prominently throughout the gala. Attending industry partners and representatives were introduced to a wide range of value-added Maldivian fisheries products, highlighting market expansion into Bangladesh's growing economy.
A primary focus was placed on the Maldives' traditional pole-and-line fishing technique—one-by-one tuna harvesting method practiced for generations. Industry stakeholders emphasized how this environmentally responsible method ensures long-term marine conservation and premium product quality for international markets.
To illustrate the market versatility of Maldivian marine exports, renowned Maldivian Chef Maha Naseer conducted a live culinary presentation using pole-and-line tuna and other Maldivian fisheries products to showcase authentic flavors and applications.
The gala was organized by the Maldivian High Commission to increase market awareness of Maldivian fisheries products in Bangladesh, foster direct business-to-business (B2B) partnerships, and broaden market access for Maldivian seafood exporters.
The event received support from key industry sponsors, including the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO), Epitychia Holdings Pvt. Ltd., VARU by Atmosphere, Maldivian Airlines, Sheraton Dhaka, THE WAY DHAKA, and INZAA Company Pvt. Ltd.
