The R. Dhuvaafaru Council has decided to make sand accumulating near the harbor’s outer breakwater publicly available to island residents to resolve navigation hazards.
According to the council, rapid sand accumulation near the breakwater poses significant grounding risks and damage to local fishing boats and sea vessels entering and leaving the harbor. To quickly address the issue, sand collected from the outer revetment will be issued to residents at a nominal fee of MVR 1.00 per sack.
Key Regulations and Guidelines:
Allocation Limits: Up to 100 bags of sand will be allocated per household under permanent or temporary registration.
Daily Quota: To maintain smooth logistics, sand collection will be restricted to a maximum of three parties per day.
Export Restrictions: Only local residents of Dhuvaafaru are permitted to collect sand. Non-residents will not be granted permits, and transporting sand off the island is strictly prohibited; violators will face immediate revocation of their permits.
Collection Times: Approved individuals may collect sand between 08:00 and 17:30, strictly from the specific zones designated by the council.
Permit application forms are available at the Dhuvaafaru Council Office reception counter during official working hours. The council urged all residents to strictly adhere to the guidelines and ensure the harbor infrastructure and surrounding marine environment remain undamaged during operations.
