The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has issued a White Alert across a large part of the country, forecasting strong winds and rough seas.
The alert applies to the region spanning from Baa Atoll to Dhaalu Atoll, remaining in effect from 22:45 tonight until 04:00 tomorrow morning.
According to the Met Office, strong winds ranging between 19 and 24 mph are expected across the area, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph, leading to very rough seas.
Given the deteriorating weather conditions, authorities have urged seafarers in these regions to exercise extra caution and check the latest weather updates before setting out on any voyage.
The Met Office also forecasts that seas across most areas—excluding the southern atolls—will remain generally rough over the next three days. While southern waters are expected to be moderately calm, conditions may turn rough during squalls.
