Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture, and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam met yesterday with the Chief Executive Officer of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), Mohamed Anas, along with senior management from Agro National Corporation (AgroNAT), to discuss the roadmap following President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s decision to bring AgroNAT under MIFCO as a subsidiary.
Held at the Ministry, the meeting brought together top officials from the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture, and Ocean Resources alongside executive delegations from both state entities to align on operational priorities.
The high-level discussions centered on charting an operational integration framework between the two state enterprises. Key areas of focus included establishing stronger cross-sector synergies between fisheries and agriculture—two central pillars of domestic food security and local commerce.
During the meeting, both leadership teams examined strategies to boost local primary production, expand value addition, and create practical solutions for improved market access for farmers and fishermen. The leadership also evaluated measures to streamline supply chain logistics and maximize operational efficiency under MIFCO's broader corporate structure.
The transition follows the government's broader initiative to consolidate state-owned enterprises, eliminate operational redundancies, and create an integrated, self-reliant domestic food system.
