Registration in 'Fahi Hakatha' Portal Made Mandatory to Receive Fuel Subsidies: Ministry

The Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources has mandated that fishing vessels operating in the tuna fishery must register through the "Fahi Hakatha" portal to receive fuel subsidies.

The Ministry stated that to strengthen and streamline the fuel subsidy distribution system, all future subsidy applications and disbursements will strictly be routed through the "Fahi Hakatha" portal—the platform currently used to issue duty-exempt fuel. Consequently, the Ministry has instructed all licensed tuna fishing vessels not yet enrolled in the system to complete their registration by September 15, 2026.

The special fuel subsidy was introduced in March this year to alleviate the burden on licensed tuna vessels amid rising global oil prices triggered by the Middle East conflict. Up until now, this subsidy was disbursed without requiring a separate request via the portal.

This constitutes an additional concession provided to fishermen, supplementing the government's ongoing initiative launched in 2019 to supply duty-free diesel to fishing vessels.
