MALE, Maldives — State Minister Ismail Azmee Adnan has inaugurated "Masveringe Gunzaru," a workshop organized by the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture, and Ocean Resources for recreational and sport fishermen.
The workshop brings together 44 participants from across the country to discuss sustainable practices and key issues facing the recreational fishing community.
Recreational and sport fishing have grown rapidly across the Maldives in recent years, prompting greater government engagement:
Infrastructure Development: The government previously unveiled plans to establish specialized sports fishing harbors in five locations nationwide, equipped with competition facilities, gear shops, and community spaces.
Registry & Financial Access: Organizing anglers into official national registries aims to improve maritime safety while expanding access to financial support programs.
The "Masveringe Gunzaru" series provides a direct platform for anglers to engage with government officials and help shape policy for the sector.
