11 Months After Zaidhan's Death from a Shark Attack, President Says He Will Investigate for Negligence

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that he will investigate whether there was any negligence by any party in the death of Mohamed Zaidhan (Newlife, R. Ugoofaaru), who died after failing to receive adequate treatment following a shark attack during an MNDF marine training exercise on June 2 last year.

He made these remarks while answering a question posed by 'Keyolha' at a press conference held yesterday.

The President stated that it is unacceptable for any citizen to be harmed or for any injustice to occur. He added that if any institution has been negligent in this matter, it is his responsibility to investigate it, and he will do so with fairness.

Zaidhan passed away while receiving treatment at Gan Regional Hospital for injuries sustained when a shark attacked both of his legs. It is reported that 2 hours and 20 minutes elapsed between the incident and Zaidhan being brought to Gan Regional Hospital.

While allegations of negligence in Zaidhan's death are directed at the MNDF, the investigation was also conducted by the MNDF. The investigation report is currently under the custody of the MNDF. While the findings of the investigation and the subsequent actions taken remain unknown to the public, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Police, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, also stated that he had not received information regarding the matter.
