10 Teams from Gemanafushi in the World Oceans Day Reef Fishing Tournament!

To mark World Oceans Day, teams from GA. Gemanafushi participating in the nationwide reef fishing tournament that began today have departed for fishing.

10 teams from Gemanafushi participated in this tournament. Following a special ceremony held today near the Gemanafushi Ice Plant, the Gemanafushi teams departed for fishing at 15:00.

To encourage the Gemanafushi teams participating in this tournament, the island council has decided to give a prize of 500 Rufiyaa to each team. In addition, the council has decided to award 5,000 Rufiyaa to the first-place team, 2,500 Rufiyaa to the second-place team, 1,500 Rufiyaa to the third-place team, and a prize of 500 Rufiyaa to the person who catches the heaviest fish.

The Gemanafushi Council stated that the teams participating from the island consist of strong and skillful participants. While this includes teams that have won places in previous tournaments, the council said their hope is for the island's teams to secure top positions in the national tournament.

The participating teams also said that they are departing for fishing with great courage and determination, and they hope to win a place in the tournament and bring a good name to the island.

A total of 109 teams from across the Maldives are competing in the reef fishing tournament held in connection with World Oceans Day.
